Hodgkins COVID-19 Police Procedures

The Hodgkins Police Department is dedicated to protecting and serving the residents of the village and the citizens within our community. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Hodgkins Police Department will be temporarily modifying how we respond to calls for service in order to safeguard the health of citizens and officers alike. Effective immediately, some community caretaking functions will be temporarily discontinued, and Low Priority (non-life-threatening, not in progress calls) will be handled by telephone.

The Hodgkins Police Department will only be responding to High Priority and/or Emergency calls including, but not necessarily limited to:

Violent crimes/crimes against persons (i.e. domestic situations where the offender is still on the scene).
In-progress calls where the offender is still on the scene.
Traffic crashes involving injury
Traffic crashes on the public roadway where vehicles are not drivable, or where they are blocking the roadway.
Serious property crimes where evidence may exist, and the scene needs to be processed by an evidence technician (i.e. burglaries).

Low Priority calls that will be handled by telephone include, but are not necessarily limited to:

Minor traffic crashes (i.e. crashes with no injury, or crashes where the vehicles are drivable).
Delayed incidents (i.e. incidents that are not in progress, and no offender is on scene).
Ordinance violations
Information for police/civil matter calls (i.e. calls where the caller wishes to request a police report to document a non-emergency incident).

If you are unsure about whether or not the service you wish to request falls into this category, call (708) 352-4476, and the shift supervisor will determine if a response is warranted. If a call does require a response to your residence, and you are able to do so, please meet the officer outside.

Please do not come into the station:

If your report can be taken over the telephone.
If you have a fever, or have had a fever within the last 24 hours.
If you have traveled outside ofthe United States within the last 14 days.
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, a cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath.
